I'm 18 years old, but I've only had my drivers license for 4 and a half months. I drive 30 mins every monday on a two way route, at 7pm going there and 9pm coming back (so its dark) the concert I am going to is a hour and 15 mins away but the drive is on a main highway. My parents are worried i dont have enough driving experience and that their will be drunk drivers out on new years eve. i will be driving to the concert around 6 pm and home from the concert around mid night or 1 am.

  1. Your parents have no say in it as you are 18 years old now.

  2. Honestly I would not let you drive if you were my kid either.  there are ton of idiots that drive drunk and your life is just to important...

  3. They are right.  So cut them a deal.  Have them drive you there and pick you up.

    Or

Put up the money for limo service there and back.  Being able to do that will be less stress both for you and your parents.  Besides, this way you can do the concert "in style".

  4. Actually NYE is less dangerous now then it was in the past.  Most bars and clubs have adapted and now stay open late (well after the normal closing time) but they cut off alcohol service at the normal time. Many also offer packages that include a hotel room, and shuttle service!

Seeing as you are going to be driving home earlier than most people who are leaving parties, the threat of drunk drivers is less. This being said, I would bet that you are not going to convince your parents.  Even though you are legally an adult, if it is their car or their insurance they have the control!

Either find a different way to get to the concert, or find something else to do on NYE.

    Sorry

  5. Hi guy a word from experience only fools go out on NEW YEARS eve find a nice warm spot near town with kids your own age and just stay off the road it is a bad night to travel with all the alcohol weenies out there be safe stay off the roads go to a concert in the middle of January or the 1st or February and kiss your parents for being your friend and loving you enough to be concerned....stay home that night..

  6. Maybe get a carpool with a friend who has more driving experience?

But I think your parents are right.  No one in their right mind should be driving an hour and 15 minutes back home at night on new year's eve.  I wouldn't do that even though I've been driving for years.

  7. If you live with your parents (I'm assuming you do), they pretty much make the rules. BUT, since you are a legal adult, they really can't force you to not go. So it's basically a judgment call. Do what you think is right. Good luck
