I am turning the legal age in a few weeks and i would like to get used to the idea of alcohol so that i do not go crazy when im 18 and do something stuipid. Im sure my parents would be fine with it if i have enough reason and ask the right way. Any ideas? theres research that people who are introduced by thier parents have less chance of falling into alcoholism does anyone know about that?

  1. What you've written here sounds good, just say that.  Not sure of any research, but it may come from the fact that French families regularly give their teenagers a glass of red wine with their meals, and they don't have the same binge drinking culture over there.

  2. There's even more substantive research that people who don't drink at all have less of a chance of becoming alcoholics.

It sounds like you're just trying to rationalize having a drink before you're of legal drinking age and that's probably why your parents won't let you have one. If you can't wait until you're 18...maybe there's more of a problem there already than you realize. I'm not saying alcoholism, but why do you think you HAVE to have one at all?

    Simple...social pressure.

  3. If you are the legal age you don't need your parents permission.

But don't preoccupy yourself so much about getting used to alcohol and what not. No matter when and who introduce you to alcohol if you drink like a fish you will get sick and if you do that systematically you will develop a drinking problem. Also keep in mind that it is 10 times biologically easier to develop a drinking problem before 25 than after. [even though most people can hide problems until they reach middle age].

Generally take it easy on the liquor.

  4. sounds like you are 12 mate

  5. Why not try to talk to them openly about it; kind of like you did here.

I agree... if you learn about alcohol in a controlled environment, you are less likely to abuse that right once you're free to do as you chose.

My mother allowed me an occasional drink at 19 & 20 years old, and as long as I behaved during & after, she allowed another next time the occassion permitted.  As a result, at 21, it was no big deal for me to go out drinking.  I've stayed mindful of drinking as a result too.

  6. oh please, if you're eighteen and you can open a beer infront of your parents then there something wrong there.

it's between you and your parents not the law

  7. Good Question:

Growing up, we ALWAYS had wine with dinner.......My mom is German and my dad Italian.....There was always wine on the table, my grandfather and grandmother (Italian) made their OWN wine and bottled it......Neither my sister or I have a drinking problem, neither do my parents.....They have a couple glasses of wine with meals, or a glass with friends in the afternoon.....

Now, if ya start slamming down Martinis before 10 am, then we have a problem starting.......Tell your parents to losen up, it's a beer, NOT heroin........Good luck....

  8. You've waited over 17 years, you can probably wait a few more weeks.

  9. Cant you wait a few weeks? If you were in Iowa, you would be waiting a few more years (21)

  10. Ummm don't believe that.. I guess it depend on the person the way he/she deals with alcohol. Anyway, having too much of it can cause lots of bad effects to the point that you will undergo alcohol treatment program.

  11. Legally at 17 you are allowed to drink wine, beer or cider if it is bought by an adult whilst you are having a sit down meal. Perhaps ask your parents to help introduce to alchol during dinner, maybe a glass of wine or beer. tell them you are naturally curious and want to explore alcohol and shortly you will be able to do that without guidance, but that you would really prefer to have their input and take it slowly under their guidance - they will love that!!

  12. That is about as childish as it comes.

I would grow up, if I were you, that will do more to convince your parents of your maturity, than all of your childish, out of context, whinging.

From your own statements, it is clear that even you recognise that you are far too immature to drink alcohol.

Just because you may legally consume alcohol, at the age of eighteen, does not mean that you have to drink it.

  13. The best thing to do is just to give them your reasoning, i'm sure that they'd understand! The legal age for drinking alcohol on your own premesis with permission from an adult is 5 years old, and in pubs and restaurants you can have wine or cider from the age of 16 with a meal ansd adult supervision. As long as you haven't done anything silly in the past involving alcohol (that they know about), I am sure that they will thing it is a great idea. I am considering doing the same thing myself now you've mentioned it. Thanks & good luck.

  14. Hey dude the legal dinking age is 21

  15. just say u fanci a beer...

im sure they wont be too shocked that u know what it taste like.

as the weather is a bit warmer just say a nice cold beer is tastier than a coke...

  16. Be careful about appearing too desperate

  17. Get them drunk. It really works! Or you can just tell your parents you want to enjoy your first beer with them and you want to remember it.
