My wedding reception is in a metal building. I want to dull down the walls, especially behind the head table. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a backdrop?? I was thinking about making a wooden frame or something for one....but I'm not sure how do go about it.

  1. my girl just got marreid and had the same dilemma.  We hung a white transparent material close to the wall and strung twinkle lights behind it, turned out beautiful and looked great in the pics.

  2. My suggestion would be to go to an outlet store or a Big Lots and find King sized flat sheets. Sew them together and you can hang them from hooks attached to chains that you would suspend from the ceiling - most likely the building will have metal beams and seams with an overhang that a hook could attach to - or you could run a rod down the tops of the walls and attach the sheets through a pocket you could sew in to them. Dye the sheets any color you want or if you or someone else is 'artsy' you could have them painted in muted shades to resemble a photographers background. The fabric will also work as a sound enhancer so that voices and music do not bounce off the metal walls and make a small noise seem like a football stadium!

  3. If you go to a site like stumps prom and party supply, you can order bolts of gossamer fabric.  They have lots of decorating ideas.

  4. You can hang tulle or white sheets. Also, if you have a Hobby Lobby or Michaels store near by they rent arches and stuff like that. You can decorate with flowers or something.

  5. Two words: Gossamer Fabric. It's a sheer fabric that comes in a multitude of solid and patterned colors and is very popular for the use of backdrops as well as bows, tablecloths, garlands, etc. You can do a search online or just go to shindigz.com where they also have a great instructional video. Here's the video link: http://www.youtube.com/user/ShindigZPart... You may also be able to find this at a local fabric store, though they may have to special order it for you. Check with your reception venue to see what the stipulations are about hanging or attaching things to the ceilings and wall, but this is a great fabric for creating backdrops and you should be able to easily find how-to's and pics on the web.
