Question:

How can i crochet a checkered scarf??

i know i can make the little squares then sew them together but i dont have one of the big needles to do so. and i was wondering if anyone could find a pattern for me or have any advise on how to....... i would really appriciate answeres from people who crochet or knit

I would put it together like an afgahn.  Let's say you want to make a scarf that is 18" x 48".  You might make (24 squares at 6" each).  12 squares in one color and 12 squares in the secondary color.  Or you could make 3" squares (96 squares total, 48black 48white.)  Then you may want to block them to 3" (or whatever size you choose) squares and sew them together.

    I recommend using half-double crochet stitches.  Or you can use a variety of stitches, like 3-6 different stitches (a different stitch on every couple of squares).  Since you are probably going to use 2 very strong colors the varying stitches may look really neat.  

    A note on blocking:

    I use my iron board and a towel with a spay botting and push pins and my blocking comes out just fine.
