How can i cure my blue screen of death without spending money?

I have a compaq notebook windows xp ive gotten the screen before and ran nortons ghost dr and it was fixed. now ghost dr. will not work and a friend of mine ran another disk and it states that i need 2 install a hard drive (stating there is no hard drive in my computer) I need it for college.. What do I do ??

also any advise in what the bst type of laptop is to buy best bang foryour buck ???

  2. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info


  3. The blue screen of death often appears if there is a hardware failure in the computer. Sounds like your hard drive is bad, or has come disconnected from the motherboard.  Open up the computer and take out the hard drive and then put it back in. See if this may temporally solve the problem.

    You will need a new one soon but maybe you can save your important data/files.

    Most laptops brands with similar features are about the same price so choose the one you like that has the features you need.  The more bells and whistles the higher the price.  Any name brand computer should be fine.
