We are both young but I have always imagined I would end up with him. However, not to sound too elitist in my views but to be honest I am worried that he is so supportive of McCain and thinks Palin is an amazing pic. Unfortunately it is very embarrassing that he is so conservative because my family is largely liberal, and one of my family members is a democratic politician. He says he has no problem with me being liberal- and that he values my opinion (which is not totally true because most times he interrupts or laughs at my opinion and claims I am largely influenced by liberal media outlets.) But I am the one with a college degree, and I worry that perhaps his ignorance and lack of the values I believe are behind democratic beliefs will be our downfall. I do not want my children being brought up with someone who will no undoubtedly try to corrupt their minds with information straight from Bill O'Reilly or Ann Coulter. He thinks I am nuts for getting this worried, but honestly I am somewhat questioning his logical reasoning as well as intellect, not to mention how embarrassed I am.

  1. I was actually thinking about this exact scenario last night...about two people together being different Political parties.  This is what I have concluded:

First of all, look at Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.  He is a Republican.  She is a Democrat.  It works out wonderfully.  They respect each others viewpoints.  They understand the world is made up of TWO major political parties.  They understand they don't agree down the line on each and every single issue, but they still are together.  I'm sure it makes for interesting conversation.  They never take anything personally against each other.  That is a good model in my view.

Second of all, I finally concluded that, Political party differences do not matter.  Your relationships shouldn't be based on partisan politics.  Think about this too, if you only dated Democrats, then how many potentially great guys are you automatically eliminating from the field?  About half I would argue.  Second of all, if he has the same CORE beleif system as you...wants to help people out, be a good person, good friend, good neighbor, then your children should pick up on those and that is what matters.  It shouldn't matter if he simply has an 'R' or a 'D' next to his name.  What matters is the person he is deep down inside.

    Best of luck!
