Question:

How can i do a pull up?

So ok when i try to do a pull up i can't do it so can you tell me a way to do pull ups and i don't want to use weights

  1. You want to know how to do pullups?

    I am a Marine and here is what I have to say.

    DO pull ups.   You will struggle at first and you will whine.  I could barely do 3 (Marine Corps requirement).

    After hitting the gym and doing all kinds of workouts for the body in general (including bench) the only way to lift your own weight is to DO IT.  OVER AND OVER.

    Within a month I was doing 8 with my palms facing me and w/o getting off the bar and switching hands I could do 5 with palms facing away.  I could NEVER do any with palms facing away.

    Short and simple do pull ups and do some more. Every night do them at least 2-3 sets as many as you can.  If needed use a chair with one leg as support.

    BTW a negative pull up for 4 seconds is SAD....female Marines are required to hold it for 70 seconds.   4 seconds HAHAHAHHAAHA


  2. You can use resistant bands to strengthen your arms enough to do pull ups, or you can use a chair as a spot while doing pullups. The further away you put the chair the harder the pull up. Good Luck!  

  3. First, try doing a pull up with your palms facing you; it lets your biceps work much harder than if your palms are facing away. Also, try curling your legs up a bit- this makes it a little easier. Next, try doing either assisted pull ups or negative pull ups. Assisted is self-explanatory: have a spotter help a little by pushing up on your lower back. Negative pull ups are when you use a stool (and/or jump) to start from the top, and let yourself down as slowly as you can (try for at least 4 seconds down). Negative exercises generate very strong muscle contractions and are great for building strength (even if you can do full pull ups).

    If you can't do any of the above, that's ok, keep trying. It'll take time, but you'll get there.

  4. You have to have A LOT of upper body strength. It takes time. Don't over-work yourself or try to hard though just do some arm excercices and crunches to tone your stomach and arms. It'll take time so don't rush it or you'll probably hurt yourself ;[ We don't want that happening.. lol
