Question:

How can i do an exchange to the U.S next year?

I have friends in the U.S ( Detroit ) and i'd like to go stay with them and do a school exchange thing but the school wont let you do a full semester exchange without getting 'sponsorship'

By the way im in year nine next year.

  1. OK. You have to go through an exchange student program. If you are only going to be in ninth grade next year, it may not be possible. You have to be at least 15 and many schools won't accept freshmen as exchange students.

    However, on the bright side, you won't have trouble getting accepted.

    First you need to find a program. You don't say what country you are in .. but look up AFS, YFU, and Aspect. They are all reliable all over the U.S. Rotary is as well, but I don't know if they have a direct placement program.

    And, direct placement is what you need to ask for.

    It works like this:

    You find a program and tell them you already have a family. There will be a place to put in their information on the form.

    Your friends in the U.S. contact the same program. They tell them they already have a student. They put YOUR name on the form.

    If the family checks out and you check out -- it's all set!
