How can i do post-graduation in astro-physics in US ??

i am doing my engg in electronics and communication.

i am in the 3rd yr, i am really interested in astro-physics.

i role-model is Dr.Michio Kaku, but then i think i cant become a theoretical physicist but i have a choice in astrophysics, so how do i prepare my self for it, and what are the resulting jobs in this field, and how many years it may take??( i am from India and i preferring US coz i want to experience a new world and of course the exposure and quality in US is better than India currently)

  1. Most astrophysicists have an undergraduate degree in physics.  If you want to go into this field, you should take as many physics and astronomy classes as you can.  

    In order to get admitted into a graduate school in the U.S. you will need good scores on the general and physics GRE's.  This is especially important for foreign students.  Most likely, graduate programs have not heard of your institution and will only accept you if you have very high scores.  You will also have to have a minimum score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language)

    In the future, I would recommend looking on www.physicsgre.com and www.physicsforums.com instead of yahoo answers.
