How can i do the smokey eye look?

Question

i don't know if its my face, or just the way i do it, but whenever i put eyeshadow and eyeliner on, i look dead.

i have very dark brown hair and eyes, and medium skin tone.

i love the smokey eye look, but i just can't seem to get it right.

Or sometimes this is what i do: i put my maybelline new york mat mousse (my skin tone) on my eye lid and then i put black eye liner on the upper lash line. It doesnt need to be perfect cuz next ur gonna smudge it upwards with a Qtip. Then i curl my lashes and apply mascara. For a more dramatic look i put black liner on the tear duct too but i usually dont.    hope i helped.

get dark grey eyeshadow and just a little black mascara

start with a black it the corner of your eye on the inside and then take a grey and where the black ends start with the grey and then take a white shimmer and finish it off. after your done just take the brush you used for your white shimmer and kinda blind it in by moving it in a circular motion start from the black to the white. then take a jet black liquid eyeliner  on the top of your eye lid make a medium line across the eye lid. and then add lots of mascara.

or

you can start with a light gray color all over and add black in the crease of your eye and do the same thing as above with you eye liner and mascara.
