  1. Have you tried Wubi? You can install Ubuntu 8.04 just by downloading Wubi. There is no need to burn a CD, just download Wubi and click the Wubi installer icon on your computer and follow the instructions to install Ubuntu. Wubi will do everything for you, so no need to worry about partitions. Wubi installs Ubuntu just like any other windows application, so you keep windows without any loss of data. When you first start up your computer you will see a black boot screen where you can use the arrow keys to choose to boot Windows or Ubuntu. By default your computer will boot into Windows after a set amount of seconds if you don't do anything. This can be changed if you want. Go to http://wubi-installer.org/

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me. (see my profile to e-mail me)

  2. You can install Ubuntu 8.04.1 using Wubi installer. You keep Windows as it is, Wubi http://wubi-installer.org/ only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers.

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.
