  1. arm reach is measured from the the armpit to the end of a closed fist

  2. It depends on the context. But from my experience, you measure or "feel out" someone's fighting skill, which means you assess their fighting ability. This means everything, not just reach: his offensive/defensive abilities, his stamina, aggressiveness, coordination, balance, etc. Of course, the more time you spend in the game, the quicker you can assess.

But you have to be quick doing any assessing, because the more time you spend on that, the less time you spend on your game plan. This can be bad for you. For instance, in amateur fights where 3 rounds are the norm, you cannot spend more than the first round assessing the opponent and coming up with a strategy. Finally, everything above, take it with a grain of salt. You can always assess-as-you-fight, or assess in the first, say, 20-30 seconds and revise your assessment as you fight. Things of that nature.

  3. remember the basic... jab... try to jab and jab... look for his attacks... look for openings... and grab every opportunity...

  4. Measuring means finding the proper distance between you and you opponent that allows you to see their attacks so that you ll be able to find the right angles to defend or attack yourself

  5. With being skilled at fainting and seeing how they react is a major factor I'd say :)***
