I was arrested for a misdemeanor when I was 16yo. the suit was dropped before court. I'm now 23 and want to expunge this record. how can I do that without hiring a lawyer? and please don't waste anyones time saying I can't, I need a lawyer. I know you don't because I have the information on what I need. I just want to see if there is a quicker, easier way. thanks!!

  1. if you already have the info and the paper work then why are you posting a question about it,,

Its court nothing moves quickly in court.

  2. Be advised that if you choose the "self-representation" route, you'll still need to follow all of the court rules for your jurisdiction.  I'm inclined to say hire a lawyer.

As mentioned, it is possible to navigate the perils and pitfalls of the legal realm without a lawyer, but what you save in money you may lose in time.

  3. The fact that you say "how can I file" and "I have the information I need" makes me wonder... Try a google search for expunge chicago illinois and hire a lawyer.

There is an article about expunging your record on expungement I found in a google search called Clearing-Your-Criminal-Record.

    Good luck!

  4. As an IL LEO - I have never seen it done W/O a lawyer - however since you can criminally defend your self - I would suppose the process is not difficult.

I would say - go to the Circuit Clerks Office and file the paperwork.  You only need to go before a judge to do it - and a lawyer's expertise would not be needed.
