post it on gumtree....n also put an ad in a local papaer...or friends reuntied...if u know there name and where they was born u can look it up from there...

and ancestry.com...then 192...

If you know where they are from and their name try a name search on a phonebooks website, you could also try facebook. If your friend isa student at a university odds are they are on facebook, i know i found alot of old school friends who are now at uni all over the country through facebook ^.^

If you know the school he went to try going on www.Friendsreunited.co.uk

Or why don't you try the National Newspapers ie. Daily Mirror, The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express - put an ad in the classified.

Try the Salvation Army - if you go on search you will be able to find their web add.
