a while ago my pc (given to me by my old school) just wouldn't turn on. now i think its just my power supply. but no one seems to carry compaq power supplies and i was wondering how i could find a new one that will work. now circuit city has told me just to get the closest voltage and it will work. but they haven't been the most reliable; often making things worse. so some one please help

  1. You don't need a specific brand of power supply, you just need to make sure it's a high enough voltage. If it's a higher voltage than you need, it will still work just fine. You also need to make sure the power supply will fit in the case, and if your motherboard requires a 24-pin power plug, make sure the power supply has one. I would make sure the power supply is actually the problem before buying one. Maybe you have another computer, and you could use its power supply to test? You can get a power supply here:

    http://newegg.com

    or here:

    http://tigerdirect.com

  2. Unplug your computer and open up your side and find the sticker on your power supply and basically write down all the specs and bring it in and be like "gimme one that'll work like this one did"
