Grow some food there and sell it, buy gold. It is the most reliable way to get gold from your back yard.

If your back yard happens to be in hard rock country, you might find cracks in the rock that have filled up with a mixture of white quartz and gold. Gold and quartz both come up through the cracks in the rock as gases, and freeze to the walls of the crack.

Eventually those seams of quartz and gold are weathered away and both end up being carried down streams from the mountains.

When the gold  breaks loose it will tend to settle toward the bottom, deeper than the quartz. So we often find gold accumulations close to the bottom of a flowing stream.

Not necessarily your back yard, but certainly near where you live.

Go to the small rivers in your area, and look for veins of quartz - the white crystalline rock. Gold is often found in veins alogside or mixed with quartz.  The more quartz there is, the stronger the chance of finding some.

Now - get a plastic pipe  - about 4" diameter, and glue in a clear perspex window.  

On a good sunny day - get your waders on and use the window-tube to look closely at the bottom of the sediment. I guarantee you will find some on the first trip out if you look in an area of quartz.

Try to find an area that used to be a gold field - there will still be some from the more recent floods. You may find small pieces - the size of rice grains - or larger nuggets !

Be wary of"fools gold" - Iron pyrites - as this is there too - but will turn black on heating, wheras gold will just melt. Real gold is very soft too - pyrites is hard and crumbly.

I brought back lots of rock with gold in it - but got bored smashing rock to get it - the bits were just too small. That's why I suggest the tube method.
