How can i find information on a life insurance policy even thought i lost it

i lost my policy and have forgotten the name of the company but i was told there was a number that i can call to get the information

  4. Not true.  Whoever told you that, was wrong.  

    There's no central database, no one collects that information.

    What you need to do, is go through your banking statements, to find the name of the company you've been paying.  If you're not paying for it, likely, the policy isn't in force any more - but get your statements back far enough, and likely you wrote the policy number on your check.  If the policy is "paid up" (not that common), you'd STILL get a statement from them once a year.

    Of course, if you aren't the policy owner, then you don't get any access to the information.
