The reason you can't easily see the ip of the person you are talking to is because your pc don't actually directly connect. Enery data you sent is sent through the servers of the service you are using( MSN, AIM, etc.)

So if you had a catalog with the ip you are currenty connected to you wouldn;t be able to see the ip of your "friend".

If, however, you sent him a file and he accept it the the file is sent directly to his pc. that means that in your "catalog" you can see his ip.

you can't do that using an instant messaging software. BUT you could make like a xanga site and put on a tracker from fishcan. com or gottem. net or something & then tell them to go to the xanga and the tracker will show their ip address
