How can i find out about events in my city?

I know all about museums and things, but i want to know when events are happening. I live in Hull.

Some of the bigger libraries often carry ' Whats On' leaflets. Or check out some of the bigger hotels, they often have this sort of information at the receprion desks. Do you have a local Tourist Information center that may be able to give you some ideas?
