If you lived in the United States I would recommend you read the U.S. Constitution.  Being in Canada that's another ball of wax.

Here is a link to a very good website on Civil Rights in Canada.

The umbrella organization for civil rights in the US is the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and a link to their website, civilrights.org, is below as well.  Two of their member groups, the ACLU and NAACP, have good websites that cover civil rights and civil liberties well.
