  3. I assume you mean that you grew up without him and are trying to find out more. If that's the case, then you have to start with your birth certificate. Find his state and date of birth and then write to the state requesting a copy of his birth certificate. From that you can find out who his parents were, figure out where he went to school, get copies of his military service records, see if he's still alive or dead (the Social Security Death Index), and start researching where he went since the 60s. It isn't hard, you just have to start with his birth certificate (which you are entitled to order) and his military service records (which you are entitled to) and work forward from there. The records aren't completely free, but the whole schlemiel will cost under $100 and give you everything that a professional genealogist would use to start a solid search.

There are lots of places online I did this to find my dad it was ten dollars and they gave me his address and i wrote to him All I knew was his name and age and were he used to live I think for more money they will tell you a lot more than that just make sure there a reputable company and I bought a pre pay Credit card just to be sure.
