How can i find out how many tons my ac compressor is?

on the model number there is usually a number like 36 or 24 in the group of numbers...if you can tell me the model number i can tell you how many tons it is ...one ton is 12000 btu so if the model number has a 36 in it , it will be a 3 ton unit also you can use the numbers on the compressor itself but it is far easier using the model number on the unit. and good hvac dealer or tech can tell you a lot of things from the model and serial number.

There is a strip of metal welded to the top of the compressor if you copy all the numbers and call a supply house they can tell you every thing you want to know about that compressor.   HVAC Tech.
