Is it possible to find out if i'm adopted when i'm under 18? Besides the obvious, asking my parents. They wouldn't tell me and get touchy when i ask questions about my birth.

Thanks.

Also,

I have posted another question, that pretty much tells my life story. If you can help me out with your opinions on whether i'm not my parents child it would be great.

  1. go to the registrars office of your place. if you see that in your birth certificate that they aren't your parents, then your adopted.

  2. Have a look at your birth certificate. If you don't have a copy, you'll have to go and get it from the registrar or whoever handles that stuff where you are.

In Oz, it costs about $20 to get a new copy.

My mum's the same when I ask about my dad (who I've never met) so I know how unnerving it can be when your folks aren't overjoyed when talking about when you're born.

    God luck.

  3. yo may not be adopted. they might just be hurt that you think so because in their opinion it may seem like they failed as parents and that they aren't good enough.

  4. You can go to the courthouse of the county of your birth and have the record looked up.  It should be the Department of Records or similar.  It will cost a small fee.  You should also be able to ask those ladies for help finding this information.  Or have a older friend/sibling go with you if you are very young.  You may need a drivers license for this and your social security number.  Just a phone call will tell you what you need and how to get it.

Another option would be to contact your pediatrician and ask him/her about seeing your records and what not.

Perhaps look at your family church's archives if you have one.

    Good Luck
