  1. A lightning rod per se, is a copper rod about 12" long that is mounted at either end of your homes' roof (pointed up), and has a dedicated ground wire run down to 8' ground rod(s).

You can look around at roof tops in the area, to see if you notice any.  They're commonly installed on any building over a certain height (can't remember actual ft.)

  2. lightning rod?? the lightning rod is usually the highest point on the building with a heavy cable to a ground rod.

trees make good lightning rods weither you want them to be or not.

lightning does that it wants, sometime you can coax it to do what you want, but lightning always wins.

you have a ground rod at the service entry of your home, it is usually shared with the telco connection. the ground rod protects the electrical system, but will not stop lightning damage.

  3. in the ground by your power box..a rod with a wire running to your power box
