  1. The following is a great website to research your Indian Heritage and provides the information you are requesting:

    http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/ho...

This can help you find someone on a roll.

    http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/ce...

  2. or that no Little Bear Bonner can be PROVED to have existed by that method. Family tradition is not necessarily "made up". I think that if a man is remembered he probably existed. Just because there is no paper trail does not mean he didn't.

If you can determine his tribe or band you can research from there. Contact the tribe historian directly. most have websites now (!)

  3. Start with your basic genealogy rules. You start researching from yourself, but ALWAYS USE records to verify your information. Unless you do this, the standard is that you don't "know" without something.

Based on this, the person had a child, who was born somewhere, at some point in time. For example.. you would (should) have a proven ancestor, named Something Bonner, and your goal is to find a document that proves his father to be Little Bear Bonner".

As long as you methodically work from present to past, and use solid records, it will always LEAD you to the records.

If your statement is only based in family tradition, there is a very high likelihood that no Little Bear Bonner existed.
