i was involved in a car accident with this person from Virginia, i'm from New York, I went to pick up the police report and the insurance code of the drive that hit me was missing, they said that when they ran the plate number on the computer all the information of the other driver shows up except the insurance code, i went to my insurance company and they said they cannot file a claim until they know the name of the insurance of the other driver which is missing from the police report. In the police report it states the insurance policy number and the expiration date but i don't know from which company, i've gone to the police and to the insurance company and know one is helping me. My car is damaged and until i get that insurance code i cannot take it to my insurance company. How can i know the insurance comapany this person has based on her policy number and address.

  1. About the only way you are going to get it is to get in contact with the person and request the info. Send a letter certified so you know they got it. Here is the web site to the Bureau of Insurance for Virginia, they might be able to tell you who wrote the policy using the number>>>> http://www.scc.virginia.gov/division/boi...

  2. Your company should be doing the "leg work" for you. That is one of the things you pay them for. Call them and tell them all the information you have and they should be able to work the claim. I expect you have the name, drivers license number, make vehicle license and such for the other driver. That should be sufficient to find the missing information.

  3. What is the policy number?  I'm familiar with a few...

If it starts w/ ....AO, it could be Liberty Mutual,

-if the first letter is a Q, it could be Erie Insurance,

-if it is a 9 digit number, try Allstate,

-if it is about 6 or 7 numbers, then a letter and some more numbers and 1 more letter, that is State Farm..

  4. Cops aren't the brightest of Gods creatures, some are just the most neglected. lol! kidding, but NO, you cannot tell the company by the Insurance policy No.  ALL Companies use different methods- Numbers, letters, there's no rhyme or reason. The cop should have listed the company. A DMV person who works in that area would know. FEAR NOT! You will find him/her. Get the policy No. and then ask the question again. Chances are the driver had a policy from a major carrier and someone will recognize it and reply to you. ALso, show the policy No. to friends to see if it's relevant to what they have. Lastly, also give the policy No. to a claims supervisor and see if they can help. They tend to have been in the insurance biz for a while and may recognize it. Best of luck.
