I am a descendant of the Wintun tribe in Northern Ca. I am trying to find out which particular band that my ancestors originated from. Any ideas on how to do that?

  1. If you are willing to spend a little money a DNA test is a good start.

  2. DNA can't even break it down to which tribe you descend from, let alone which band. Only the tribal councils and the Bureau of Indian Affairs records at the National Archives in California holds those records. NARA requires a trip there to view the records in person. The tribal councils just require letters with specific information on the people you're researching...name, parents, DOB, marriage, date of death, etc
