  1. A likely problem is in the rf ground connection to your radio.  If the far end of the coax is not fastened to a decent "ground" which connects to most of the vehicle, rf will be forced to get there via the radio itself.

If the far end of the coax shield isn't connected to ground, it could cause all sorts of "interesting" effects that you don't want.

A poor ground can really hurt your radiated power.  Also, I hope you didn't have a "friend" tune it.  I've seen rigs that were peaked for pa *current* rather than rf output.  A quick tweak brought the output up a good 10 times :)

As mentioned, it is possible to have bad coax.  Check any solder connections between the connectors and the coax.  A bad solder job could kill your output.  The coax would have to be really bad to affect 27 MHz very much for the short runs most have in their vehicles, but it is possible.

    Best bet, in this order:

    1) Antenna ground (or, more properly, the business end of the coax's shield to ground)

    2) Solder joints in coax connectors

    3) Antenna itself (part broken?)

    4) Coax

    Good luck!

    Best regards,

    Jim

  2. Check your antenna,

sounds like a short in the coax.

  3. No Name probably hit it on the head about the coax and antenna. But I would take the set to a CB repair shop and ask them to put it on their service monitor for a quick check-out. You can find these repair centers at about any truck stop.
