How can i fix a change of color in dark wood?

i accidentally spilled nail polish on a dark wood tray and stupidly tried using nailpolish remover to get it out. this changed the color of the wood. i do not know what to use to change the color back. is there something specific i shold do?

  1. You need a furniture scratch repair crayon (or wax pencil).

    You will need to take your tray to the paint store, Lowe's or Home Depot and match the color.

    It is used just like a crayon over the damaged area and blends in beautifully.

    I used them all the time when I refaced kitchen cabinets with wood veneer.


  2. Unfortunately, you'll strip and sand the wood back down to the natural finish and re-apply whatever stain/sealant achieved the look you have. On the plus side; once you've stripped it, you can re-stain it ANY color you want. They've got some really great colors of stain now... grape, tangerine... Just keep re-applying it to get it darker...
