Ok heres the problem.. I have only 1 set of component video jacks on the back of my tv. The green and blue cords work fine but i have to hold the red one downwards, almost breaking the cord to get picture.when i let go of the cord i get a weird looking screen. i am 100% sure its the tv and not a faulty cord. What can I do to play my xbox 360 using the component cables. There are 3 spots on the back of tv for composite video and 1 for s-video but i need component video and that is the one that does not work. Did anyone else have this problem before-can i fix it on my own,and how much do you think it will cost to be repaired. Also are there any other options available, like some kind of converter to plug in to the composite jacks and then plug in the component cords into the converter-Do they make anything like that? I just bought the tv and this happened out of the blue. Thanks for your help.

  1. There's no converter to do what you want. You just can't use a non-HD input as an HD input. It sounds like you have a loose connection. You may be able to take the back off the TV and resoldier the connection (if your comfortable with that). Repairs are costly no matter what you do since most places charge $75-$100 just to look at a tv. You could call a local repair shop and ask for an estimate. I'd stay away from big box franchises when it comes to repairs.

  2. The first thing I would do is make sure it is not the cable.  Try swapping the blue cable with the red one.  In other words connect the blue cable as if it was the red one on both ends.  If the problem stays with the red cable it is the cable that is the problem.  If the problem stays with the red input on the TV then it is the TV.  If the connector is faulty on the TV, then you will need to use another input or get the TV repaired.  A repair like that should not be too expensive.  Connector problems are pretty straightforward to fix.

Your video game should have another type of output - it may not be as good as the component video connection, but it may be good enough.  I don't think there is a component to s-video converter cable, but I could be wrong.

In the future make sure that the weight of your av cables are not pulling down too much on the av connectors on the TV - this can cause problems with the connectors.  Try to support the cables somehow so the full weight of the cable is not pulling down on the connector.

  3. it is easy to fix if you know what you are doing, but if you are an absolute ... in electrical and other technology do not do it. Also if you take your tv to fix ti would cheaper for you to buy new one.

To fix the problem you have to get soldering kit, unplug you tv, open it up, find disconnected part of your A/V plug ins and solder it in to the place. Be careful do it carefully and right other wise you would need to buy Fire extinguisher before plugging you tv back on.

  4. your cords are loose. you should replace that, buy a new one.
