How can i fix sound lag in a home theater system?

I hooked up a home theater system (surround sound) to my television. My problem is with the sound from the cable box. I have one HDMI cable from the cable box to the television (which has 2 speakers on it) and a Red/White Component Audio going to the home-theater base. When i turn on the television and the surround speakers at the same time im getting about a half second delay in the sound out of the surround speakers compared to the sound out of the television speakers. How should i resolve this?

  1. I would upgrade the home theater, for one with HDMI input.  The Red and White RCA inputs are only two channel stereo so you aren't getting much home theater out of it at this point.  You can also check and see if there is a digital coax or optical output from the cable box, then plug that into the home theater box.  If you include the stereo and cable box model #s, we might be able to provide a better solution.

    Plz help me!!!

  3. upgrade the audio connection, maybe add acoustic foam, turn off the tv speakers... the list goes on

  4. This is pretty typical. The best thing to do is turn off the TV sound and just enjoy the sound from your surround system.

  5. As others have indicated turning off tv sound or muting tv is easiest of solutions, however, many receivers have the capability to generate a test tone or white noise(static that you hear moving around your system). Within this same feature normally resides the capacity to adjust delay in milliseconds (MS) to your 5 or more surround channels. spend some time to adjust these levels and you may find the answer.

    Happy viewing.

  6. dont use analogue.  use either a coaxial or optical cable and turn off the TV speakers

  7. It depends upon what surround sound mode you are in.

Surround sound is supposed to have a lag, to give you an echo effect.

Depending upon the model receiver, you can change the lag, in the set up mode of the receiver, this is to accommodate different size rooms.

Tell me what receiver and I will tell you how to set it to the lowest setting.
