  1. Okay we are going to do this together. It's OK. Deep breaths. Now PUT the TAPE measure down. Slowly Slowly. Good. Now step back. That's it very good. Now i am going to put this in the attic or somewhere out of reach but within your sight. You have grown very attached to this little guy. He has seen you through the long and short times in life. He has had his ins and outs and now it is time to put him to rest. Even if you solder it or something else it will break again because of how pliable the tape measure is. We all know how hard it is when you are sentimentally attached to something. It is time to move on. Go out and make that little guy proud. Go to the store and give one of those new tape measures a new  home because i know you will give it the love and attention and use that it needs and deserves.

  2. I agree with Steve - pitch it, go to Sears and get a "Companion" 6 foot tape for $2.99.

  3. I don't expect you to like this answer BUT you should throw that thing in the trash ASAP!

Go buy a new better one and take care of it.

Sometimes **** breaks, you can't fix it ALL over and over ....

  4. Toss it. lf you do fix it and you let it reel in, and your finger happens to be up aginst it where it's broken. You can get a really nasty cut. As a carpenter, when l had one get a check in it ( samll tear ), l tossed it.
