How can i g et my pictures to be black and white?

my camera is an Olympus FE-230 7.1 megapixel. i dont know how i can get my picturesa to turn out black and white. could someone help me?

You need a photo editor.

Go to picnik.com, make an account (it's free), upload the photo you want, go to the create tab, and on the left side, there will be several different ways to manupulate the photo. The black and white should be the first or close to it. Click on it to see if you like it, hit apply and then save it using the save tab.

I took a close look at your camera manual,which can be found here:

It makes no mention of a Black and White mode.

You will have to use software  to convert to BW.

There is probably a menu setting that will allow the camera to take all photos in black and white, (read your manual), but I do NOT recommend you do this. It will not be a good looking black and white, but just an ugly desaturated color photo.

It is always MUCH better to do any black and white conversion in post processing photo editing software. I'm sure your camera came with at least some form of basic editing program that will do it.

The best thing to do would be to purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. You can easily use this to give gorgeous looking black and white photos. The program cost about $100.

Also, you always want to shoot in color with your digital because it very often happens that at a later time you will be wising you had the photo in color... and you CANNOT convert the photo back to color when the camera has been set to take it in black and white.
