  1. No title = no ownership = no transfer of ownership.

He's scamming you.  Or at the very least, he would have no motivation to get you the title cleared and transfered once he has the money.

At the time of purchase, you MUST get the title.  If you don't have the title, you will NOT be able to get even a temp registration.

    Good Luck...

  2. No title...no deal.

If he doesn't have a title DO NOT give him any money!

The title situation is a huge scam.....he has no proof of ownership because he doesn't own it!!!

  3. do NOT give him any money until he has the title.  If he owns the cars, the titles should be in his possession, unless he lost them and has to order new ones.  If you don't mind spending the money, get a carfax report on the car (you'll need the VIN) to make sure he owns them and there's not lein or anything on them.

In new jersey, you need the title to get the registration and plates...  i know, because I just had to transfer my vehicles to new jersey from pennsylvania.  They also have to send the Title in to get that switched to a New Jersey title.

good luck, and remember, do not hand over any money until you have the title.  I've seen a lot of people screwed by this (title = ownership... whomever is on the title is the legal owner of the car)

if he lost the title and is getting a duplicate, it takes about a month, so 3-6 weeks is about right.

  4. I hope you haven't forked over any money to this guy.  The seller has a duty to furnish you with a merchantable title at the time of the sale.  He gives you No title, you give him  no money.  You can do nothing until you have the (merchantable) title in your hands
