  1. Others have given suggestions on getting it from the preparer or the software.  But you CAN get it that fast from the IRS - call them (lotsa luck - their lines are jammed) and they'll fax it to you, or stop in at one of their offices and they could print a copy for you.

  2. You didn't save a copy?

If you did it on line using an online tax service like TurboTax or TaxAct, they would have a copy of your return. You should be able to log back into whatever site you used and print out a new copy.

If you used a paid preparer, such as H&R Block, they should still have your file, but you might have to pay them a fee to get another copy.

If you have to order a copy from the IRS, you won't get it in 34 hours. Sorry.

(Do they need the actual return itself, or just some numbers from it? Maybe you could find the relevant numbers on the FAFSA you filled out earlier this year?)

  3. Call IRS and give your fax number. You will get the transcripts, which will serve your purpose.

Normally, for most of the requirements your purpose is served if you ask IRS for Transcripts instead of your tax return. You can order a transcript by calling 1-800-829-1040, or using Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return. There is no fee for a transcript.  Transcripts have most of the information from your tax return including information from W2, 1099.

Form 4506 is Request for Copy of Tax Return. You will get copy of tax return filed by you along with all the attachments (like W2, 1099..). For each return the charges are $39 and IRS takes about 60 days to complete your request. In the Form 4506 you can also authorize a third party to receive the return.

  4. If you go onto the IRS site they have a list of offices in your area, you can just go up there and ask for a copy. or at least that we can do in ga.

  5. Unluckily, the IRS takes about two weeks to mail your tax return to you after you request a copy.  If you had a tax preparer write up your taxes, you can get a copy form them as they are required to keep copies.

As an aside, you should keep all your tax records for a minimum of 5 years in case you get audited.

  6. If it was prepared through an online program, you should be able to log in and print one off.  If you had someone prepare it for you, call your tax preparer and have them make a copy for you.  If you explain the situation, they should be more than happy to do so.  If needed, they'd probably even fax it to you if you're not in a position to pick it up.

If that's not possible, and you need them within the next day, you could go to your local IRS office and ask for a copy of your account transcript for that year. The transcript will show when you filed, what your total income was, and your total liability. It will also show if the account is paid in full.

Colleges usually don't need a full copy of a tax return. Their main concern is what your income was, so the transcript should be enough. You might want to give them a call just to make sure.

The website to find your local IRS office is here:

    http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.h...

The local offices can get busy, so you will want to get there as early as possible.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
