  1. I agree with the person above me. Although owning a penguin sounds pretty cool, wouldn't it be happier in its natural environment with all its penguins buddies?

  2. If you really love one then do not be so stupid as to get one as a "pet".   They are wild animals and not there for that reason.  To start the ownership of any exotic animal requires permits and depending on the animal it can also require you to shell out tons of cash to the local govt.  On top of that you need to have the knowledge, money and space to care for such a thing. Something tells me that you do not have the knowledge and by the way you type I am guessing you are young, which means you do not have the money either.

Take the time to really think about what you are saying and the amount of work and money that goes into carrying for something as simple as a dog (food, toys, vet bills).  Now guess as to how much more is involved with something like a penguin (not to mention they smell).

Like I said, if you really love penguins you will leave them be.

  3. If you REALLY love them, you do NOT want one as a pet.  For several reasons:

1 - They belong in the wild where they are happy and can fulfill their place in the environment.

2 - The law would probably keep you from having one anyway.

3 - The living habitat you would need to provide it for its health would be impossible for a private person to obtain and maintain, and very expensive.

4 - A Penguin's diet would be impossible for you to provide.  Where do you think you could get, and how long could you afford to buy, all the fish it will need day after day after day??

5 - You will not receive any affection from it.  They are birds.

It's just not practical, so get yourself a loving, friendly dog.

  5. Seriously, I think your best option is to become a zookeeper or exotic animal vet.

Otherwise, hire a lawyer or do lots of research to find out if it's legal to have a penguin where you live (country, state/province/prefecture, city, etc.), what kinds of permits and certification you need, what species can survive in your area, and THEN for a way to get a penguin.
