  1. I have worked for myself off and on, some of it under the table. I did landscaping and gardening work. Don't advertise on craigslist as the state here has been checking to see if you have a contractors license or the proper credentials.  I made flyer's and targeted the nicer neighborhoods. Babysitting is one that you might be able to do. You can earn up to $600 before having to report it. I caution you, the IRS is one institution you don't want to mess with.

  2. I did this once - I was in the same situation.

This may sound weird but I just looked in the newspaper and started calling places, I just asked if they would pay cash.  I got a couple surprised responses, but actually most of the guys just said yes we do and told me to come down there.  You could probably just go on a job site or whatever and ask the workers or the boss himself.

Of coarse this will only work for certain jobs - mostly manual labor.

Mine was a roofing job.  The guy was always honest about paying me the correct amount.

  3. Its off the books and under the table.  Most of the time there are these jobs in manual labor or some restaurants.  Be careful, you could get in trouble.  The IRS doesnt like it when you get income and not give them a cut.  I would suggest a job where you get tips.  The hourly rate may not be high, but you can fudge your tips at the end of the shift and only claim the minimum.  Make sure you tip out accordingly though.
