How can i get an updated phone junction box?

Question

i live an old farm house and have dial up. my ISP provides me with 56k internet, but i can't connect any faster than 28.8k because i have an outdate phone box on my house. how can i get an updated one installed? i was told that your phone company can come out and update it and will do it for free, but i cant find any info about it. i have AT&T Local and Long Distance by the way. please reply ASAP! thnx

Updating your phone box (NIU, Network Interface Unit), will not provide you more speed for your internet.  The NIU is just a box that connects the phone company wiring to your residence wiring.  There is not any fancy electronics in that box that will provide more internet speed.  You need to upgrade your service.  Call AT+T and see if you are in an area that has DSL service available.  If AT+T cannot provide braodband, try the cable company.
