Question:

How can i get around a community college placement test?

I decided that i want to go to a community college instead of a four year, simply because i'm saving money. I hope to transfer to a four year university in two years.

My problem is the assessment test (a test that tells you what classes you qualify for in math and english.) I did very well on the English but i blew the math portion and i got put into math 15, which gives me no transfer credit. Math has always been a thorn in my side so i was not totally surprised, although i didn't take math my senior year in high school so i was rusty. Be that as it may, i have to get into a higher math class.

I guess my question is what can i do? I don't think challenging the results is the best idea because if i re took the test, i still wouldn't do that great. I know i can make it in a higher math class. I'll hire a tutor, stay after class, and do whatever is necessary to pass the class. I have friends going to ucsd, ucla, columbia, even Berkley so i have no shortage of help. Is there any way to register for classes that the assessment test says you do not qualify for? I wish they did not take that test so seriously. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. ok first dont stress it too much alot of people do horrible on that placement test.. it's simply MATH- it doesnt stick in the memory long = ) There isnt a way to get around it. Besides if you were to go to a 4 yr college u still have to take a placement test.

the Math 15 class might not be worth ne credits but you will need it to continue on.. sorry to tell ya... Im not sure what math 15 is where you live but i too failed the math portion of the test.. i had to take1 algebra class for no "real" credits and then move on naturally tothe college algebra class...  i took it in the summer that way i didnt have todo math all semester...  so try to see if that is an option and have  your friends help u pass.... its soo worth it...

Also you said your going to community college to save money and then trandfer to a 4 yr. Why dont u do your two years at  commmunity get your AS or AA degree and then take that to your college of choice.... it's be wiser since you will be entering a 4 yr college with ur degree and will except it fully and make u a junior.. if you transfer midway through there is a great chance the 4 yr school will not exceot some of your credits from community college making you take more classes... which if your looking to save money.. wont be the best decision...

    GOODLUCK
