  1. You can't. That is how radio makes money is by selling the ads. Radio stations are full of people working that want to be paid. So, the answer is no.


  2. If you are a bona-fide charity, non-profit, etc. you can ask for (and probably receive) free PSA's (Public Service Announcements) at your local station, providing you're not  NYC or LA.

    Or, if you are a merchant with goods to barter, stations are always looking for give-away items or a new car for the boss. You can trade the value of your goods and services for an "in kind" amount of advertising. Usually at a multiple of 2-3:1.

    Meaning if you're a car dealer and you'll let the manager have a 6 month lease on a demonstrator that would usually go for $3,000 for the 6 months, you can probably "trade" that for $10-$12000 worth of commercials.

    There are other, sometimes very clever deals that have been done (ahhh the stories I could tell), but that's the gist of it.
