i have like a 3.6 GPA. i'm just outside the top 5 percent of my grade. i got a 2150 on my sat's (790 on math, 670 on reading=1460) the only time i took them..im probably gonna take them again to boost reading. I play varsity sports and an instrument. I so far took 1 AP and got a 5 on it, i am going to take 4 more this year. I have taken all honors so far and have well above a 4.0 GPA once weighted. Im in national honor society and might be a national merit scholar-i find out next month. i would like to become an emt-both because i weant to and i think it will really help my chances.

i would like to go into medicine or law but i imagine those are popular choices for ivy leaguers. what are my chances of getting into an ivy league school.. also can i get into most other schools-like what would be a good safety i could apply to and definately get in. is there anything to boost my chances of getting into an ivy. is there a good chance i could get into the level of schools right below ivy (i dont want to go there but MIT for example)

thanks

  1. no if your a middle class white kid going to a public high school you pretty much have to start an orginization or outreach program or come up with some kind of logarithm that could kill google in order to get in...

  2. MIT is right up there with ivies.

You have average stats for getting into the lower ivies. But if you don't have a hook (recruited athlete, legacy, minority, faculty kids, rich ad famous=50% of class at any ivy) you usually need to be above their average. Right now I'd say you have a shot at Cornell and maybe Penn. And yes, your stats suggest the schools a step below the ivies like Tufts, Vanderbilt, NYU.

For a real shot at the ivies below HYP, raise your SATs 100 points, get great recs and write a fabulous essay. Your CR SAT score is at the bottom of every ivies 50th percentil which is a big issue. This will be the most competitive year in history at top colleges with the largest graduating HS class in 4 decades. Dartmouth and Brown accepted 13% this year, 4 years ago they accepted over 20%. Harvard took 7%, 4 years ago almost double that.

And trust me, being an EMT is not gong to help at any ivy. You're competing with kids who play in big city symphonies, won the Intel science competition and are on Olympic teams.

Your best safety is your state flagship.
