  1. Well, four years ago when I applied to Harvard, I had Straight A's in High School (3rd in my class due to the people in front of me having an extra bonus point foreign language class, because Spanish I was offered at their middle school in 7th grade while it was first offered at my high school in 8th grade) which led to a 4.89 GPA on a 4.0 scale (AP and honors classes getting a bonus point).  I had a 1470 SAT score, was editor in chief of my school newspaper, yearbook, and literary magazine, competed on my schools Cross Country and track teams, and was captain of my schools Quiz Bowl team.  I also was in National Honor Society, vice-president of Mu Alpha Theta, president of Quill and Scroll, scored a 4 in AP English Lit, American History, European History, US Government, Macroeconomics, a 5 in AP Calculus AB and Biology, and I finished high school in three years instead of four. And I asked my teachers to look over the Essays I sent in with my application package, which they thought looked impeccable.

I was rejected from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.

Maybe it was because I'm a straight white male, instead of a underrepresented minority or g*y.  Given my application package, I choose to believe that admission at Ivy/League/top schools is truly random.  Or perhaps the thing I was missing was excelling at athletics, instead of merely trying.  Or perhaps it was the fact that I'm not related to someone who has a degree from an Ivy League school.  Maybe it was that I didn't go to my local International Baccalaureate school, but rather my local public high school.

I really don't know how to get into an Ivy League school, and I don't know that anyone aside from a legacy application really does.  I would suggest giving up that dream, and instead focus on getting into the best public school you can.

Maybe if you do attain fame and notoriety your kids can go to an Ivy.

  2. join clubs, do community service.  get at least a 34 on your ACTs and get a good SAT score..

Here is some more info on Harvard:  http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

you can also look up other schools on that site if you want.

  3. You need a well rounded balance of both clubs and classes. It also doesn't hurt if you come from money or had family members attend those schools. I believe they refer to it as legacy.

  4. Get over a 2000 on your SAT's, do community service.
