  1. To homeschool you should first go to HSLDA ( Homeschool Legal Defense association).com find out the legal restrictions in your state. Some states you have to get a homeschool card, in others you have to just take a year end test every year.

Afterwards you have to have a brainstorm session. There are tons of ways to homeschool, and tons of curriculums out there.

Here is a website that has tons of homeschooling reviews, and you can compare prices on it! Plus you can even find out through the website if the book your thinking about buying is at a library near you! It is really awesome, I think it should be the next stop for everyone looking into homeschooling, or anyone already homeschooling who needs any kind of books or curriculum.

  2. Have you considered k12.com

    www.k12.com

We used it since October 2007 for 5th grade course work. My son does take 7th grade Algebra.

    We're based in Georgia.

I find it to be very good for it's purpose. It allows the student to be at home taking classes with a "learning coach" (Mom or Dad) assisting as needed. At this grade, my son is self sufficient and logs on every day and does his work. Mostly I assist with algebra with some assistance in history, and literature.

If sending your son/daughter to a public school is troubling as far as the peer pressure, bad influences, etc.. this is definitely the way to go. We could no longer afford private tuition and we tried public school for third grade. Third grade was rotten as the culture clash from private to public was great.

The courses are all online. All the books, workbooks, teacher answer books are sent "FREE" and brand new. they even send rocks, sand and beakers for science classes including large world maps for history.

The lessons are all computer based. Think Powerpoint presentations with audio. It's material presented in a bright clear format.

A teacher at the beginning of the year is assigned to every student in the teacher's local area. The teacher may have as many as 60 students local. Our teacher has a Masters degree in education. The drawback I've seen is there is little interaction between the teacher and my son. There may be a net meeting session about every 6 weeks, but it's not mandatory. I've never spoke to the teacher on the phone but have traded emails.

Honestly I haven't needed her for teaching but sometimes I have questions about a process.

The student must attend a minimum of 5 hours per day in Georgia. About 100% of the time all work can be completed within about 2 hours! We completed a years material of Science by Christmas. Algebra is challenging as it's two grade levels higher but it takes about an hour per day.

The class work is not easy but it's not very difficult either. I think the amount of material covered per day could easily be increased without harming the student's learning.

The staff at K12 is very professional, more so than our local county schools.

To begin enrolling in Georgia Virtual Academy (GVA) your student must take a battery of tests online. Each tests gets increasingly more difficult. Once all the tests have been completed, the results are sent via internet to K12. They evaluate the test scores and place your child in the appropriate grade level of classes.

The testing process took about 4-6 hours.

K12 will send you a very large shipment of everything that is needed for your school year. If your economic circumstances are challenging you may qualify for a free computer they will send you.

We have re-enrolled our son for 6th grade this coming year. School year begins after Labor Day and goes to about June 10. Homework is controlled by you, you can assign nor not assign homework. The program does not assign homework.

Field trips occur during the year. Lake Lanier Islands for the end of year party.

    Hope this helps.

  3. hi there!

basically i did it and it helped me so much, because its one on one, and you don't have any distractions.

mine costs £21.50 per hour pretty expensive so i used it along side school.

But if you know a tutor then you can normally get discount because their not going through the company.

    anyways thats basically it!

    good luck, and schweeeeet dreams!

  4. Hi Sara...

Yes, you can homeschool - there are many independent study programs and curriculum available for you to use depending on how much you want to spend.

First, you will want to learn about the homeschool laws/requirements in your state that will give you a better idea on what is expected of you.

Go to your state's government website and type in home schooling or home school, home instruction or home education.

If you are in high school, you will want to also know your state's high school diploma requirements - so you will know how many credits, etc you will need to graduate.

You can study independently or through an umbrella school or independent study program, depending on how you learn best.

My teens use regular curriculum and we record their grades, etc. for their transcript.

You can find different high school options here:

    http://www.homeschool-curriculum-savings...

If you are not high school age, the options will be similar, except for maybe the college options - depending on how old you are.

Homeschooling costs vary depending on the program or curriculum. You can homeschool for almost free through your library, etc.

Umbrella schools and online independent study programs vary as well from free (state online charter schools, etc.) to thousands of dollars.

Here is a free resource (high school):

    http://www.hippocampus.org/

The more services you require, the more you pay, usually, like tutoring, transcripts, diplomas, etc. Your parents can also create your transcript based on the courses you take, and issue a diploma.

Check out dual enrollment/credit too... you can save money on college. You earn college credit while earning your high school diploma. It will save you money on college tuition too - your parents will love that! :)

Hope this helps. Wishing you much success!
