I am aged 14 and love motorbikes, but my parents say that I am only allowed ride them on the track and not the road as i managed to convince them there are less dangers.

I want to get into the sport as young as possible but dont know how to start, i have had some little experience of riding.

Any help much appreciated

  1. ok, so first answer is c**p!

and you dont need to go into motocross first.

    my brother races bikes.

he started out on the minimoto (or pocketbike) racing.  if you google it and look for a place near by you that provides races.  he also spoke to a local kart track and he managed to hire the track for an hour at a time to practice inbetween races.  he started when he was 6 at that.  he eventually got bored and stopped but he got a Aprilia RS 125 when he was 12 and started racing it.  we lives in Scotland so he done the Scottish Champs and a few meetings in England.  Once he hit 14 he got a Honda GP 125 which was faster.  He done some Scottish again and even (in only his second year) got to go to a few British Champs meetings.  Now we live in Canada and hes just turned 15.  He is running in the USGPRU Eastern Championship which is the main champs in the US, and also the RACE Canadian Champs.  Next year he may be moving to the Spanish Champs from which ALOT of GREAT racers have came.

If you get yourself a bike (125) and maybe do some rounds next year you can apply for the Red Bull Rookies.  Again alot of great racers came from there.  There is an American one and a European one.

If you want to ask my brother any questions add me as a friend and i'll hook you up.

I hope you follow your dream, and dont let anyone tell you that you cant do it!!

PS. wiggysan, my brother has only done about 1 of them, and hes doing great actually.  you dont need al those things, just some racers came from there. iv not had to seel my home.  fair enough its expensive, but if you really want it, your parents will understand and they will be able to work it out.

PPS.  my dad started racing when we was 33-ish.  he got to the british superstock level.  maybe he never made it full on to moto gp blah blah, but he had a great time doing it.

  2. I would suggest a couple of years of motocross before getting into roadracing. Motocross tracks tend to be open everyday for practice and entry fees are a lot less than roadracing as well as the bike, riding gear and school (if any). Dirt will teach you to slide both ends of the bike without fear and at a slower pace. Try learning to push the front end at 80 mph on a 250!

  3. Please check my answer again on Wednesday evening.

I'm in France at the moment and I can not give this important question my full attention.

    Many thanks.

    Its Wednesday.

  5. First you need to do track days - when you're

competent - you then apply for a novice licence -

    (See 1st link)

    http://www.acu.org.uk/

When you have your licence sorted - you will need

to enter into 10 race meetings at 4 different race

circuits in order to progress to a clubman licence -

where you can enter any club series -

    (See 2nd link)

    http://www.bemsee.co.uk/

Assuming of course your from the UK -

    (otherwise - waisted time again)
