I have always wanted to go to africa or something to help do something to improve their lives.

For example a few years ago i met someone who was going to Africa to help build a school for the children.

Is there any way to get involved in these kind of projects that really make a difference.

I don't just want to give a donation as i don't think you can ever be sure where that is going.

  1. There are many volunteering abroad companies, where you can teach english or build houses etc

    try http://www.originalvolunteers.co.uk/

    or www.i-to-i.com

  2. There are loads of charities that you can do volunteering in Africa with - just do a google search on "volunteering africa" and you'll get loads come up.

But be clear about your motivations.  A lot of people in Africa are quite happy with their lives.  We often go down there with this "I can save you" approach which isn't always the most helpful.

In choosing a volunteering opportunity look at who has decided what is being done/built.  Has the local community said that they want this or is a charity imposing it on the locals? Do your research before signing up.

  3. A PERFECT one to try that is easy and rewarding (our school did it)

    www.thepencilproject.com

  4. I am not sure if you are simply looking to help the needy or help people in general.  A site that was recently introduced to me by another person on here is called ASKWISH.  This site allows you to help people and be helped.  They call it wishing and dishing.  A wish is something you want, need or enjoy and a dish is something that you can offer to another.  Not money but talents, resources and experiences.  This site is like a Pay it Forward thing.  People helping people.  Hope this helps.

  5. Try the Voluntary Services in your area

  6. Your best shot is to contact some of the major charities like Red Cross / Amnesty International / UNICEF to name just a few. Tell them your interests in what you can do to help. They will prefer financial backing but if you have certain skills they may show interest if you are a medical student or have other scientific qualifications. Just wanting to go to another country to help is not enough. If however you are still determined and lack some of the skills they require another option is to contact your local church and talk about foreign aid schemes that the church may be involved in. You can ask to join the foreign aid teams and try build up your skill level with them. Hope this advice is of some help and good luck.

  7. some churches have groups that travel for that...also there are food pantries locally to give out food...

  8. ask at ur school

    or local library

search the internet there r loads of websites that tell u what is goin on in ur area
