How can i get more traffic to my site and spread the word?

hi everyone!

my fiancee and i have made a new website that we are looking to get lots of traffic to. its had a small amount of traffic but definately not steady. i want to spread the word but i dont want to get classified as spam or anything. our site is not selling anything, nor doesn it contain any ads, so there isnt any reason for people to be afriad of going there (as opposed to sites that spam everywhere and usually have bad things on their sites). how can i get more traffic without making people feel annoyed?
