the 3 of them were abandoned but not together. 2 as a pair and 1 by itself.

for the most part only one of them flaps a bit when i do food changes. i have restricted their food supply, but i feed them several times in 15-20 minute sessions with my hand in the cage with tons food and talk to them. i want them to trust me and be friendly and eventually come out and perch on my finger.

do you think this will work?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Keep feeding them by hand but only use special treats like millet sprays, fresh fruit & vegies. Only let them have these during this time. Once one does this (generally the leader) they will copy. They will like you eventually.

When they trust you enough you can use the same technique to train them to come out of their cage (just be sure they can't escape: make sure all doors/windows are closed)

Good luck and enjoy your beautiful parakeets

  2. Try getting them more used to you. Getting a bird to trust you it a VERY slow process. I couldnt even deal with it, so I gave my cockatiel away. They can be mean little f**ks but if your patient enough, they’ll come around.

Move the cage to a spot where they’ll be around you the most.

Speak to them nicely, and calmly, they KNOW what you mean by the inflection of your voice. If you speak to them in a mean way, they wont like you. Its the equivalent of going up to a person and telling them to f**k off and then expecting them to like you ten minutes later.

  3. take them seperatly in to a samll room(bathroom with toilet lid DOWN) and give them food and perch trsain them first,a then after about 20 minutes with each per day for a week start with your finger until they get used to it!
