he has been playing with his belt from his bathrobe practicing tieing a knot...well, he just did it all by himself! no bow or nothing but like tieing your shoes but the part without the bows he can do!

oh, and he can rock climb by himself too...those rock walls at the park...he is too small for his age (2 yr olds are bigger or the same size and hes 3yr6mo) and he can kick the big kids *** with that ****! OH YEA!

and he knows some of his letters...he knows numbers 1-10 as in he can point them out! and he is just so smart! i just got to figure out a way to get him into kindergarten this year...he turns 4 at the end of december...it will be ok if he has to get held back but i know he can do it and i want to try to get him in! anyone know how?

  1. you must be 5 to start you could put him in pre-school

  2. I was really hoping this posting/question was a joke.   I'm sorry you feel that you need to rush your child youth.  He will only be little once, enjoy while you can and allow him to be a child.   He will have plently of time for school soon enough.

  3. Every parent thinks their child is a genius! Don't push him to  to suicide in the future. Let him be a child and learn at his own rate. Think about his maturity, will he survive from year to year being the youngest in the class? I am not saying he isn't bright, I am just saying that his lievel of maturity is important for his future well being.

  4. No matter how smart your child is, all states have an age cut-off.  Otherwise, people would be enrolling their "genius" 2 year olds in Kindergarten.  There has to be a cut-off.

Since your son doesn't turn 4 until after the school year starts, he won't be able to attend until next year.  He can go to preschool at the age of 4.  Kindergarten isn't until he is 5.  He has to be 5 BEFORE the cut-off though.  My son has this same "problem".  His birthday is 2 weeks after the cut-off.  Some states do offer 3-year-old "preschool" programs.  Look into local programs for him to get involved in until he can officially start school.  I'm simply home-schooling my child until he's officially old enough to attend.  He'll just be ahead of the curve.  :)

  5. Ok well you have to be 5 atleast but I saw someone who was 4 a Baptist Private Sschool, but they didnt do good in K or first work with him and maybe Pre School or kinda homeschool him

  6. I believe you have to be 5 (from my understanding, at least in my state)... at his age, he could be put into preschool, and next year he could possibly be enrolled in Kindergarten. I would call your local school board and ask how it works.

and rock climbing won't matter to kindergarten r preschool, neither will size. It's age that matters.

I would suggest that you don't push him into kindergarten this early. Go through preschool, then go to kindergarten. good luck.

  8. he needs to be 5 years old at whatever cut off date your school district decides.  you should have him start practicing his name, colors and shapes if you want him to get ahead of other children.  it is also recommended that you introduce simple math to children at this age.

try to enroll him in pre-school or a mommy and me class.

    good luck!!

  9. He's too young ... why don't you let him be a child .  or send him to nursery school.

  10. Depending on your state it may vary but most of the time there is a definitive law that the child must be 5 on or before some date in September or October to enroll in kindergarten for that fall.

If you think your son is exceptional and you live in an urban area there is almost certainly a private preschool for the gifted somewhere. Call around to the preschools and find out what kinds of programs they have.

Your local AEA (area education association) might test his IQ for him or you could have a psychologist give him the Weschler IQ test for children to see if he really has an exceptional intelligence that needs further education now.

As far as a preschool or private school program being expensive -- especially if you are un-wealthy and your son is exceptionally bright there usually is scholarship money available but you should really start making calls now as they may have a 7/1 deadline for enrollment or might have had their registration in April already.

If you cannot get him in anywhere -- not to worry. He is very young and exploring the world exactly as you are doing with him with the rock climbing etc. will put him ahead of the game when he does start school. He really does not need to learn academic things like letters and numbers at his age so much as getting along with others and relating to the world around him.

  11. try pre school or head start, kids here have to be 5 to go to kindergarten and im sure  its the same in most states.

  12. You can't. Its the legal guidelines the district has to follow. he has to be 5 by a certain date not 4 and besides I don't remember rock climbing being part of the curriculum. Motor function is a given milsetone that a kid starting school should have but they focus on reading, writing etc..kindergarten is alot more than it used to be.

  13. In WV, a child has to be 5 to be in kindergarten; you could get him into pre-school or head-start (if you're lower socio-economic status)

  14. My daughters birthday is November 9th and I was not able to get her enrolled into Kindergarten until she WAS already 5, not turning 5.  I tried very hard to get her in at 4 and they wouldn't let me.  You cannot in most states get your child into Kindergarten at 3.  The state will not let you.  I also have a son that is turning 3 this year, he knows his alphabet, has been counting to 15 for 6 months, sings most childrens songs well, and is very active in his learning process, but I know there is no way he will be allowed into school until he meets the age requirements.  You can start him in preschool this year or try a montessori school at 4, but do not expect public school to enroll him, they won't.
