How can i get my cats to get along?

i recently got a new kitten who is only about 3 weeks old. i know that's young, but you need to take barn cats around 3 weeks or else they become too wild. there are also 2 other litters, and at least 5 other older cats, so she would have died anyways.

anyways, when we brought her home, my two other cats reacted badly. they hiss and growl at her. they even growl at me and it's only been one day. i still give them just as much attention as my kitten. they too are barn cats, but i got them at the same time, so they've grown up together. does anyone have any suggestions on how i can get my cats to act nicer around me and my new kitten? i

  1. When you bring a new kitten into your home, you should always isolate it in its own room or a bathroom for at least two weeks.  The new kitten could have diseases that could be transmitted to your other cats.  Then let the older cats smell the new kitten under and near the door often until they get used to each other.  Also, you can rub a cloth on the kitten and give it to the older cats to smell and on the older cats and give to the kitten.  You should visit the new kitten often and feed and play with it.  It should have its own food, water and litter box, as all kittens are born with worms and if it shares the litter box with the other cats, they will probably get them too.  Enjoy your new kitten.

  2. Give them more time. Beware! You other cat can run away from when they feel left behind by his master. So, love all your cats and treat the same way.

  3. I would say to just give it time.  They will adjust eventually.  Just give them time to establish who is the boss of the house.  They will stop hissing at you to.  You just got to give it time.

  4. I have owned barn cats basically all my life, and I have never taken them before 6 weeks, it is extremely bad for them to be taken away that young and at an age of 6 weeks you can wean them back into the house. Please bring it back to it's mom (her milk has special nutrients that are essential to his growth and development) You can call a local vet if you don't believe me.

But when you do decide to take him home (please wait another 3 weeks!!) I read this great article on introducing pets, I'll give you the link:

Best of luck and I really hope you returned the cat

  5. Give them time and a 3 wk o shouldn't be left unattended around the older ones. We often recommend rubbing a towel on each cat so they all smell the same. Smell is a big thing for cats. Good luck with your baby.

  6. You basically have to wait it out and let them get used to each other.  It took my 2 cats about 2 months to be good around each other.  Victor hissed at the kitten cause he felt threatened that another cat was in his home.  Before we had gotten our kitten Shadow, we had gotten a kitten from a lady in the neighborhood.  This cat was extremely sick and due to that Victor would attack this cat and charge at her.  He could sense that something was wrong with her.  Well back to something u can do.  When u go out seperate the kitten from the others.  When u r home keep them out and just let them do whatever unless they attack your kitten.  If they do that scold them and tell them NO.  Also give them all attention equally.  Well hope this helps.
