I'm an officer for my dance team and i feel like we're getting out of hand. We lost 3 girls this month and we gained 5, but these new girls aren't getting it. The other officers and I put together a rule book, but 4 girls missed practice today. 1 was excused, the others didnt even call. I need them to take me seriously because i can tell the way they look at me.. they don't want me to tell them what to do.. and when i put my 2 cents in no one listens... what can i do to make these girls listen to me and understand that this is serious to us. our competition is next month and im getting more nervous and stressed with every day that passes. ppleaseee help me out guys,

  1. i totally understand.

my cheer squad has 42 girls and 20 didnt show up to practice the other day.

a lot of it has to do with bonding and not trying.

try to set up like a bonding night with the whole group not just a certain few where you all go to the movies and sleepover at someones house or something.

while youre sleeping over talk about how serious you guys need to be for competition and everyone needs to show up.

then ask for comments and ideas you can use from the other girls.

get a phone list with everyones phone numbers and if they dont show up call them.

tell them they need to excuse it before they miss or else they will have consequences (running, extra workouts)

or you can put them in the back for the dance and say when you earn it and are here for practice we might move you up because its not fair to the other girls who have been working hard to be put in back when you werent even here.

they need to see you serious..yell...get mad...after practice explain to them why you push them so hard and that youre proud of them.

  2. Well I'm a dancing student. I'm not in competition (yet lol) but there are girls in my dance class that don't care about showing up or practicing. It bothers me sooo much! If they don't listen to you they must not really want to dance as much as the other girls. You should stress how much they are going to look bad compare to the other girls who came and practiced. If you convince them that they are going to look silly up there then maybe they might start caring. I hope this helps. I would like to know how they did.

  3. just tell them that if they don't shape up, they are off the team. After all, winning is a team effort and if they aren't even trying then how can they be considered pert of the team??? YOu wanna win right? Just be stern and serious and if someone gets in your face, then make them or ask them to leave....

    OR

    a different approach

maybe you just need some time to bond. Everyone on my team is friends with each other and we do so much better when we all cooperate. Try doing something together as a team...likr making tye-fye shirts with nicknames on them or something...

i know these are totally different, but maybe you could try them both

    ??

    Good Luck

  4. I'm my competition dance team's captain so I can totally relate to you.

You should be having monthly examinations or gradings, where each dancer dances her own solo and then has to follow choreography. Then, you and the other officers grade the dancers and the students with better grades get a more significant role in the competition/recital.

Make them each sign a contract that they are not allowed to miss more than 2 classes without an excuse, such as a call from a parent or a doctor's note.

Go into dance overdrive. This is a tough one, but it's manageable. When the girls come into the class, have them put their stuff down immediately. Have them start warm-up, go across the floor, and do turns without talking. Then start the dance.

When dancers are absent with no excuse, they have to come early and learn everything they missed out on.

You can be more leniet as they begin to improve, but good luck!

  5. On my dance team, we have consequences for girls missing practices unexcused, coming late to practice, and that kind of thing. The punishment is usually having to do a minute long kick line routine (that is very hard and tiring). Sometimes we will have to do 10 in one practice, and the whole team has to do it.

  6. be serious and confident. offer a reward for their compliance.

  7. Tell them that they better straighten up their act or they can leave. You need serious workers who are dedicated. Tell them that you are serious about doing this and any slackers can LEAVE.

A little harsh, but you'll make your point.

    :]

  8. well, it seems like the ppl ur with arent the best.. i would advise you to choose others but since the short time, the best thing i think you should do is to have a small "party" (at least tell THEM its a party; who wouldnt come to a party?) and when they all come over, discuss with them the importance of the competition and explain to them that there is barely time for miscommunications and mistakes. let them explain why they arent doing their best and tell them how you feel about their uncooperativeness.

    hope that works! :D
